It tastes amazing on pretty much everything! Truly, it is one of the most versatile sauces. Trust me, one bite and you will be hooked!

What is bitchin’ sauce?

Bitchin’ Sauce is an almond dip, sauce/spread. It was created by Starr Edwards while pursuing a vegan diet! She and her husband started selling this delicious dip in farmers’ markets, in and around San Diego.

The company has grown over the years and now distributes nationally. They make a variety of savory flavors of Bitchin’ Sauce (more on this below), like this chipotle one. They even have a few sweet flavors that are great for pairing with fruit and baked goods.

Ingredients and Alternatives

Raw almonds – Use raw almonds and not roasted or salted ones. If you don’t have a high-speed blender, raw almond butter* can be used instead!

If you are allergic to tree nuts, raw sunflower seeds can be used in their place but the flavor will not be the same as the chipotle bitchin sauce.

Lemon juice – Lemon plays a crucial role in the overall flavor of bitchin’ Sauce. I recommend using fresh lemons for this recipe.

Garlic – for that perfect garlicky flavor. You can also garlic powder but using the fresh cloves will give the best flavor.

Bragg liquid aminos* – This gives a great umami flavor to this dip. Tamari or soy sauce can be used in its place but they do have a slightly different flavor profile and saltiness

Nutritional yeast* – This gives the cheesy, nutty flavor to this dip.

Crushed chipotle peppers – The star of this recipe. If you omit the smoky chipotle flavors you will get the original flavored bitchin sauce. We used these peppers to make Subway Chipotle Sauce as well.

Spices – The exact spices used in Bitchin’ Sauce are “a family secret.” but I went with my best judgment and it tastes amazingly similar to the Chipotle Bitchin Sauce. I used cumin, chili powder, coriander and paprika

Oil – Grapeseed oil is used in the original recipe but any oil without a very distinct taste would work.

Kosher Salt* – Original Chipotle Bitchin sauce is on the saltier side. If you prefer less sodium, start with less then taste and adjust.

Others – Water

chips dipped in chipotle bitchin sauce

Step 1

Add all the ingredients in a high-speed blender.

Step 2

Blend on low speed for 1 minute. Then blend on high for 1-2 minutes or until you get a smooth and creamy consistency.

Step 3

Refrigerate to allow the flavors to mingle. The sauce will thicken as it cools. If the sauce separates, give it a good stir before use.

Other Bitchin’ Sauce Flavors

The bitchin’ sauce comes in a variety of flavors. The “original flavor” is what made the bitchin’ sauce wildly popular. Some of the other noteworthy flavors include: Pesto, Cilantro Chili, Bombay, Eggplant & olive, and Avocado Serrano.

They also sell four sweet sauces: Apple Pie, Chocolate, Salted Caramel, and their seasonal Pumpkin Pie.

How to serve chipotle bitchin’ sauce?

The chipotle bitchin’ sauce can be served as a dip for raw or roasted veggies, french fries, or even your favorite chips. It would also make a perfect addition to my vegan charcuterie board.

I also love to use it as my salad dressing. This and my eggless ranch are my go-to salad dressings. If you prefer the dressing consistency to be thinner, you can thin out this chipotle bitchin’ sauce with water.

This sauce is so versatile that it will go well with any of your favorite savory food! You can drizzle it over tacos, brats and burgers or use it as a spread for your sandwich.

Storing & Make Ahead Options

Bitchin’ Sauce is perishable and should be stored in the refrigerator. It is best consumed within 3-4 days of preparing i

Natural separation may occur when it is kept in the fridge. This is normal. Stir before using it.
