Bloves sauce is a rich and flavorful butter-based sauce, perfect to serve with a seafood boil. It is very popular on social media, especially Youtube and Instagram. It is made with a blend of spices, garlic, onion, butter, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, lemon juice, and chicken broth.

  • Quick and simple recipe
  • Can be made well in advance as it freezes well.
  • Homemade bloves sauce is cheaper and I love the option to customize it to my preference

What does Bloves Sauce taste like?

The combination of different spices makes the sauce very flavorful. The sauce has a creamy texture and a slightly thick consistency.

Ingredients and Alternatives

Don’t be discouraged by the long ingredient list. Most, if not all the ingredients are easily available or maybe even present in your pantry.

Seasoning mix: This recipe has lots of seasonings. It includes common spices like garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, cayenne pepper, onion powder, oregano, lemon pepper, chilli powder, Cajun spice mix, and Old bay seasoning

Minced garlic (or the cloves from about 4 whole bulbs): Mince the garlic cloves finely so that they mix well with the sauce. Best to use fresh garlic for the best results.

White onion: Dice the onion into small uniform pieces so that there aren’t any large chunks. I used white onion for this recipe but you can use yellow onion as well.

Butter (4 sticks or 32 tablespoons): An important ingredient as it is a butter-based sauce. It makes the sauce rich and creamy. Use unsalted butter so you can control how salty you want your recipe to be

Chicken stock or broth*: This enhances the flavor of the sauce. Best to use low-sodium broth*. You can also use vegetable broth* in its place

Worcestershire sauce*: Gives the umami taste and adds a salty, tangy, and sweet flavor

Brown sugar: You can also use regular granulated white sugar in its place.

Lemon juice: I used freshly squeezed lemon juice to brighten up the sauce. Also added lemon zest to the recipe for an extra lemony boost.

White vinegar (optional): This is optional if you want to add more acidity to the sauce. It helps to balance out other flavors. Red wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar can also work in its place

Tabasco sauce (optional): Add this if you want a more spicy flavor.

Others: Ground ginger (optional), Salt

Crushed red pepper flakes* (optional) – Adds color and heat to the sauce
