Why you will love this recipe
- This recipe gives the chicken breast a crispy crust while still having a juicy center.
- Healthy, low carb, high protein dinner.
- The best part – takes only 30 min to prepare. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner.
- Cheaper to prepare this copycat recipe at home than to have it at the restaurant.
Blend of herbs used to make Herb Crusted Chicken
The delightful blend of herbs is the primary element in this healthy easy chicken recipe. I used thyme, rosemary, sage, and parsley. This brings out the flavor of the dish and makes it taste incredible!
I recommend adding fresh herbs to bring out their rich flavor. I did use dried sage as I couldn’t find any fresh ones.

If you are opting for dried herbs instead, you would have to play around and experiment with the right amount for this recipe. You can also experiment with different herb combinations till you find something you love!
Ingredients and Alternatives
This herb-crusted chicken recipe is not only simple to prepare, but also calls for simple ingredients.
Chicken breast – You can use fresh or frozen chicken breasts. If using frozen chicken, thaw it completely and dry it using paper towels to remove any moisture before cooking.
Though this is inherently a chicken dish, you can make it vegan by simply swapping chicken for tofu or portobello mushrooms.
All-purpose flour – If you want your chicken to have a more crispy crust, use panko bread crumbs instead of all-purpose flour.
Herbs – I used thyme, rosemary, sage, and parsley. I used fresh herbs (except for sage) as I mentioned above.
If using dried herbs, the quantities needed for this recipe would vary and you would have to do some trial and error to get the right ratios. I do, however, recommend using fresh herbs if possible.
Olive oil – It is used to coat the chicken breast and it helps the herb blend stick to the chicken. I used extra virgin olive oil but any other oil should also work.
Lemon juice – I like a little acidity in my herb crusted chicken.
How to make the best Texas Roadhouse Herb Crusted Chicken
Prepare flour mixture

In a bowl* mix the flour, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and paprika together. Mix them well so all the seasonings are evenly distributed.
Coat chicken breast

Pat the chicken breasts dry. There must be no moisture on the chicken breast before adding the flour mixture to it.
Coat the chicken breast with extra virgin olive oil, about a tablespoon of oil should be enough. Then add the chicken breasts to the flour mix, one at a time. Evenly coat the mix onto the chicken, making sure every surface is coated.
Sear the chicken

Heat olive oil in a skillet* or cast iron pan* on medium-high heat. Place chicken breasts, two at a time, on the pan and cook each side for about 3 minutes or until golden brown.
The aim is to sear the chicken to get a crispy texture outside. Switch off the heat and add sage, parsley, thyme, and rosemary on top of the chicken breasts.
Bake the chicken
Place the pan with the chicken, in the preheated oven and bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until the chicken is fully cooked at 425F. This also cooks the herbs and combines them with the crust to get that perfect texture and taste.
If using a skillet instead of a cast iron pan, make sure they are oven friendly. If not, simply move the chicken breast from the skillet to a baking sheet* and bake the chicken.
Serve
Texas Roadhouse serves their dish with a half of a caramelized lemon to squeeze on top of the chicken. I used the lemon squeeze bottle to add a little bit of acidity to this dish.
How to Tell if Chicken is Done
Chicken breasts are cooked when the interior temperature is 74ºC/165ºF. If you don’t have a meat thermometer*, slice into the thickest part of the chicken breast, if the meat is opaque and white throughout, the breasts are cooked.

If the inside is reddish-pink or has pink hues in the white, it needs to be cooked for some more time. This is a great way to check if the chicken is cooked. Make sure to never eat undercooked chicken as it can cause food poisoning.
Storing Texas Roadhouse Herb Crusted Chicken
This recipe is great for meal prep. You can make a big batch and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Just make sure the herb crusted chicken breasts have cooled to room temperature before storing them in the fridge.
It can also be placed in a freezer bag or wrapped up in a plastic wrap or aluminum foil and frozen for up to 4 months.
Reheating Texas roadhouse’s herb crusted chicken
This lemon herb chicken reheats well. Use one of the following options.
Reheating in a Pan :
Heat olive oil in a pan* at medium-high heat. Add in the chicken pieces to be reheated once the oil is hot. Heat each side for 2-3 minutes. This method heats the chicken well and also keeps the outer crust nice and crispy.
Oven :
Preheat the oven to 400°F and reheat for 12 to 15 minutes, depending on its thickness. This method works best if you keep the leftover chicken breasts out of the refrigerator for 20-30 min before reheating.
Air fryer :
Preheat the air fryer* to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the chicken breasts in the basket and reheat for 4 minutes. You can also lightly coat the chicken using an olive oil spray* to keep the crust crispy. I recommend reading “Best Oil for Air Fryer“.
What to serve with Texas Roadhouse Herb Crusted Chicken
I like to serve this herb crusted chicken with a side of veggies such as green beans for a low-carb, healthy dinner.
The chicken can also be served with a dipping sauce. Honey mustard, choice of bbq sauce, and ranch dressing are all excellent choices.
If you are ok with carbs and are not worried about the number of calories, mashed potatoes topped with bacon bits and cheese make a delicious and easy side dish. Herb crusted chicken can also be served with a side of rice, fresh-baked bread, or even a simple garden salad.
